LYNN VALLEY LIONS CLUB - www.lynnvalleylions.com

So you ask who or what is a Lynn Valley Lions Club? Since 1917 Lions Clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. Lions Clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community. Today there are 44,600 clubs in 190 countries with 1.4 million members.

The Lynn Valley Lions Club was chartered October 27, 1970 and from that humble beginning has continued to be a low key community focused organization that has contributed significantly to the residents of Lynn Valley, the North Shore and other parts of Canada and worldwide.

At the beginning club meetings were held in the old Lynn Valley Legion, following at Karen Magnusson Arena and few short stops after that until the late 1980’s when the Lynn Valley Lions Housing Society was formed. This was the largest community project the club had undertaken and the basis was to provide subsidized housing to families in need. The complex was originally called Lynn Valley Lions Premier Court and consisted of 46 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, was financed by Federal and Provincial grants and opened in 1992. This complex was renamed approximately 2 years ago after one of the club’s great members, Lion John Gardiner who had put many countless hours into the complex passed away. The facility is now called Lion John Gardiner Court and is located at 1055 Premier Street.

One event that the Lynn Valley Lions Club organizes and runs in the community is Lynn Valley Day, a  special celebration of the pride and joy each resident feels about Lynn Valley. The first Lynn Valley Day was held in 1912, but for many years following, the event was held sporadically and as a matter of fact was dormant for a number of years until 1972 when the Lynn Valley Lions Club decided to revive it and make it an annual event. Since 1972 the Lynn Valley Lions have been holding the event annually and it has been growing and growing.

The Lynn Valley Lions have raised over a million dollars over the past years from our annual Christmas Tree Sales and countless other events. We would like to thank the Lynn Valley Centre for their constant support over the years in giving us a location to sell our Christmas Trees and the residents of Lynn Valley who look for our Tree Lot every year. We would also like to thank the patrons, staff and management of the Lynnwood Hotel for hosting and supporting our weekly Meat Draw.

All funds raised are put back into the community. Many individuals and families living on the North Shore do need help and many have requested help and have been assisted by the Lynn Valley Lions Club.

The Lynn Valley Lions have also made donations to the following community efforts:
